New York Mets
In 2011, I was on a job talking with a fellow employee that it would be awesome to see the Cardinals play in every ballpark. The other guy made it a point to tell me that I couldn't do it, and I turned that into the motivation I needed to make the ballpark tour possible, starting that Summer.
A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted about a job taking place in New York City during the month of June. After checking the Cardinals schedule against my travel schedule, it looked as though I'd be in New York at the same time as the Cards. It was as though the stars had aligned and I would get to see the Cards in the last ballpark I needed.
Enter Southwest airlines.
About the only realistic hurdle that could of prevented me from going to the game would of been a flight delay. As we waited at the gate, the intercom sounded off with bad news. It would seem that the plane we were scheduled to depart on, was unable to make it's flight to New York. They would have to find a replacement plane for us to fly on. After calculating travel times, it would seem that my final ballpark would be delayed another year.
The replacement flight was finally posted and it was still a long shot to make it on time. Then they bumped the depart time up another 30 minutes. Still it was a stretch considering New York traffic. About the only possible solution would be if the crew I was with would take my bags back to the hotel while I went to the game. I hate having to ask that from others, but this was a chance I couldn't pass up.
I have to say that this crew is so awesome. They were totally understandable to my situation and didn't even bat an eye to helping me out.
I completed my mission of seeing the Cards play in every park today. It's been a long journey and many have joined me along the way. I want to thank everyone that contributed to making this possible, and I'm happy to finally cross this off my lost of things I want to accomplish.
Time for the next adventure.
