NAACP Event
Yesterday was the setup and today was the actual event. The show went great and everyone was happy with the work we did.
Office Nook
Secured myself a little nook behind stage to make into my work station. The audio guy provided me with a mixer so I could plug in my headphones to listen to the speaker. A speaker monitor wasn’t a good option since I was back in the kitchen and the noise would make it too difficult to hear.
Wireless Available
I did a quick test of some new items I bought as you can see in the picture above. I now have a wireless receiver and transmitter as well as a battery pack for the monitor. This setup will allow the prompter to be mounted to a dolly without needing someone to wrangle all those pesky cables. I can’t wait to use this on a shoot!
State of the City Address
I had the chance to run teleprompter for the Mayor of St. Louis, Tishaura Jones, on this one. She seems like a really nice person and easy to work for. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to use my teleprompter system for this job, as they rented from someone else. It was a pain to use as they used TVs for the monitors and they don’t flip internally. I used the remote prompter tool in TelescriptAV to flip it. Not ideal but it works.
Washington University Graduation
I believe this is the 3rd year of me doing teleprompter for the Washington University graduation. I was running my two laptop setup, with two versions of TelescriptAV, and my scroll controller with two USB inputs. I use a mini ATEM Blackmagic switcher so if one laptop goes down in the middle of the speech, I can quickly switch to my back up. I am located pretty far away from the lectern but luckily I have all the cabling needed to make the run.
Cart Build
I was finally able to figure out the best cart load. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Three Person Panel
We had a three person panel for this group, which created a bit of viewing problem with talent being off the center axis of the camera. I am in the process of adding a teleprompter system with a trapezoid glass for extended viewing angles. I also provided a couple of separate monitors to display slides and script on. I did the job of two people on this one; running slides and script. It was an awesome shoot!
Planned Parenthood Luncheon
This is the second year that I have operated the teleprompter for the Planned Parenthood Luncheon. The difference in height of all the speakers always pose a problem and has me considering getting an auto-rise system.
Drone Rentals and Operations
I recently renewed my drone license and plan on adding drone work to my services offered.
Emerson Electric Quarterly Video
This quarterly shoot was done at the Emerson Electric HQ with the CEO reading from the teleprompter.
TKC Holdings Green Screen
This was the same office as the previous day, but with the room flipped and shooting into a green screen.
TKC Holdings CEO
This was a small simple shoot done in a local office for TKC Holdings. The CEO recorded the part as an introduction to new employees.
Siemens Shoot
I worked with a company from Montreal for this shoot. They contacted me through my website, which is always encouraging to know that people are seeing it. They were a nice group of people to work with, and I hope they come back to St. Louis again soon. We shot at Barnes Jewish Hospital but didn’t use any of the typical hospital locations. Instead, we filmed in the walkway between the two buildings.
Teleprompter Shoot at The Chase Park Plaza
We had an all-day shoot at The Chase Park Plaza for Copeland. Copeland had a convention in the general session on that day, so throughout the day, their employees came to the room we had set up to read some lines from the teleprompter
Kamala Harris at Marriott Grand
The Vice President came to the Democratic event during the weekend, and saying the security was tight is an understatement. They kept hinting at using a teleprompter, which I was there at the ready in case they did. The prompter never happened, and I ended up working the show as a playback operator. It was still a good time. I’m on the right with the headset.
Joe Buck for BJC
Unfortunately, I was unable to get a shot of Joe Buck in front of the teleprompter, but here is a quick behind the scenes of another part of the shoot.
New York Mets
In 2011, I was on a job talking with a fellow employee that it would be awesome to see the Cardinals play in every ballpark. The other guy made it a point to tell me that I couldn't do it, and I turned that into the motivation I needed to make the ballpark tour possible, starting that Summer.
A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted about a job taking place in New York City during the month of June. After checking the Cardinals schedule against my travel schedule, it looked as though I'd be in New York at the same time as the Cards. It was as though the stars had aligned and I would get to see the Cards in the last ballpark I needed.
Enter Southwest airlines.
About the only realistic hurdle that could of prevented me from going to the game would of been a flight delay. As we waited at the gate, the intercom sounded off with bad news. It would seem that the plane we were scheduled to depart on, was unable to make it's flight to New York. They would have to find a replacement plane for us to fly on. After calculating travel times, it would seem that my final ballpark would be delayed another year.
The replacement flight was finally posted and it was still a long shot to make it on time. Then they bumped the depart time up another 30 minutes. Still it was a stretch considering New York traffic. About the only possible solution would be if the crew I was with would take my bags back to the hotel while I went to the game. I hate having to ask that from others, but this was a chance I couldn't pass up.
I have to say that this crew is so awesome. They were totally understandable to my situation and didn't even bat an eye to helping me out.
I completed my mission of seeing the Cards play in every park today. It's been a long journey and many have joined me along the way. I want to thank everyone that contributed to making this possible, and I'm happy to finally cross this off my lost of things I want to accomplish.
Time for the next adventure.
Rehearsal at Spot Studios
I had the privilege of participating in a teleprompter rehearsal at Spot Studio, and it was an absolute game-changer! The studio's state-of-the-art facilities and their attention to detail truly set the stage for an exceptional experience.
During the rehearsal, we were provided with two impressive 65-inch monitors strategically placed at the back of the room. These stunning displays served as the teleprompter screens, delivering crisp, clear text to guide the speakers with seamless precision.
The use of these large monitors made a significant difference in our rehearsal. The size and clarity of the screens allowed everyone in the room to easily read their scripts, eliminating any chance of misinterpretation or fumbling. It created an atmosphere of confidence and professionalism, ensuring that every speaker was able to deliver their lines flawlessly.
I look forward to future collaborations with Spot Studio and to leveraging their top-of-the-line resources for even more impressive presentations. Together, we will continue to raise the bar and deliver extraordinary performances that captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact.
A huge thank you to the entire Spot Studio team for an unforgettable teleprompter rehearsal. Your dedication and commitment to excellence are truly commendable!
Hyatt by the Arch
Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to run the teleprompter for Encore during a four-day event at the prestigious Hyatt Regency At The Arch. From [specific dates], I worked with their top-notch gear and was pleasantly surprised to be provided with an additional monitor, allowing me to utilize the extended display for seamless editing.
The show was an absolute success, leaving a lasting impression on both the audience and myself. The energy was electric, and the performers were nothing short of outstanding. Despite the usual last-minute script changes, which always inject a thrilling sense of anticipation, I embraced the challenge and delivered flawlessly.
The provided gear and the additional monitor truly enhanced my experience, allowing me to work efficiently and make necessary adjustments on the fly. The Encore team's commitment to quality equipment undoubtedly contributed to the overall success of the event.
As a teleprompter operator, being able to adapt to sudden changes is an essential skill, and I thrived under pressure. The excitement of managing those last-minute script adjustments and seamlessly incorporating them into the performance was an exhilarating experience.
I feel incredibly grateful to have been a part of this event and to have worked with such a talented team. Their dedication to delivering a remarkable show was truly inspiring, and I'm proud to have contributed to its success.
Here's to more exciting opportunities and memorable events in the future!
